Kids, you can’t live with them… you can’t live without them. Traveling with kids… well very much the same. You can’t travel with them… but you can’t travel without them neither (at least if you have them, if there are no kids in sight, than by all means, travel without worries all the time!). because boy, were we in for a treat with our little monster.

Our holiday kind of started bad with a heat wave in Europe. Not an ideal situation with a baby… With temperatures over 40°C (we are NOT used to that here), there wasn’t a lot you could do. So our first travel day was kind of a boring ‘driving-all-the-way’- day. As it was too hot to go and visit a castle. We did get there, got out of the car and walked towards it; but we could feel and see that it would knock our baby out completely if we would visit the castle (which was mainly outside) as well. One mayor problem was that he refused to sleep in the car. Oh hell, what were we getting ourselves in to? Our trip wasn’t supposed to take a very long time (I think according to google maps somewhat around 5 to 6 hours). But the roads in Germany are so much fun, more fun because they are freaking working at every corner. So we had an hour to two hours delay because of that. Can you picture our happy faces yet?
Our first hotel was located in Sommerhausen. It was an okay hotel, but there was no air-conditioning. We hadn’t checked that one – never needed to – and we kind of assumed there would be one in a decent hotel. We thought wrong. And our little monster had a really though night (and I bed the other hotel guest as well… with the noise he could make). So day one… was a great success!

But we were still on board for the following days! Yes, we were! Our next stop was Nuremberg. A great start of our day, really. We just took a stroll around the city, shooting some pictures, drinking a cold coffee (heat wave, remember) and stretching our legs before leaving Germany and heading towards Austria. But again… today wasn’t an easy day. Not only were there more traffic jams because of maintenances of the roads, our little guy had a little problem with his internal regulations and thanked us – for taking him with us – with a exploded diaper and no easy way to change him.

We were happy to FINALLY arrive in Salzburg… but a little less happy when we discovered this hotel didn’t had an air-condition neither. The heat wave was still going strong and our room here was even hotter than the other one in Germany (less thicker walls, and no option at all to open the windows, due to traffic noise and so on). So… happy faces. Yeah.

But on a positive note – the hotel had a great location. It was a few minutes away from the Kapuzinerberg, great mountain/ park to go and visit with a baby in a baby carrier. He will sleep for sure! And leave the heavy climb up to you! We got to visit a monastery (don’t remember how we did that… somebody drove through a door, we were looking, he asked if we wanted to see the inside, we said yes… simple as that). We also visited the center, with the Dom, Mozarts Geburtshaus and took the elevator to the Festung Hohensalzburg. After that we decided we wanted to try and let our little man take a nap – which he refused, of course. So in the afternoon we headed out again and visited Mozarts Wohnhaus and the Schloss Mirabell. We really liked Salzburg! In the evening it started raining. We were almost singing and dancing in the rain! But just hustled ourselves inside a restaurant, to eat a Wiener Schnitzel while our baby was stuffing his face with bread. Definitely a city to go and visit! But if there’s a heat wave… do take another hotel! Just a tip.

The following day we left Salzburg. We were ahead of schedule (a baby can do that) so we decided to take a small detour towards Sell am Zee, before heading via the Groβlockner Hochalpenstraβe towards Slovenia. Sell am Zee was very touristic… but you had some nice views there over the lake. But the rain wasn’t so welcome anymore, as it totally and completely destroyed our experience of our alpine road. It’s a toll road and we payed to see fog. Which was, well, not worth the money.

Our little monster also gave us a few exploded diapers again, refused to sleep in the car – again … Happy faces? Yeah, no. But we arrived save and sound in Križe¸ Slovenia. I’ll tell you all about it here.
