Rapsaillebos

The Rapsaillebos is a forest and a nature reserve in de “Flemish Ardennes” in the south of the province of East Flanders. It’s about 50 ha big and lies in Geraardsbergen, right next to Galmaarden (Flemish Brabant). The forest is protected since 1980 and is acknowledged to be a “silent area”.
You can take a lot of different walks there. We really liked it here because we hardly saw a person :-). Only some cows and a bit further away some people on their bike.

The forest is cut in two by a steep inclination that – in the end – turns into an old Roman Heirbaan. For the fans of cycling: here’s where the Tour of Flanders passed by – and will pass by again.

Oh and Geraardsbergen is also known for its ‘Mattentaarten” a delicious treat after a long day of walking. Just hop into a bakery to find them.

Brakelbos

The Brakelbos is another forest, located in Brakel. There are two loops to follow, the Bosmuizenpad (1.7 km) and the Reeënpad (4.4 km). I think we wanted to do the first loop. But with a stroller… we didn’t get quite far. Sadly. It was a weekday in the fall/ almost winter. And there was nobodoy around! So we had fun, for the half hour we walked there. But with al the “steps” and so on… we are definitly coming back, with a baby carrier (or maybe when our little man can walk on its own – who knows).
