Some time ago we decided to go on a small trip to the Sauerland (Germany), together with our pup, Nova. We booked the trip via Travelbird. We didn’t want to plan a lot, plus it was cheaper via them than via booing to find us a dog friendly hotel J. I’m not going to say where we stayed because we didn’t like it that much. Mostly because we never got the chance to speak German as the owners were from The Netherlands and – as we booked via Travelbird – the only persons who were staying there where from The Netherlands as well. Which we though was a pitty. But the location was great! We stayed in Schmallenberg.

On our first day we went via Freudenberg towards Schmallenberg. Freudenberg is a little town in the North Rhine-Westphalia district. It’s very touristic and known for its white houses. We actually didn’t think it was that special… because there are a lot of places in Germany with the same sort of houses ;-). And maybe they are a little les touristic. The weather wasn’t so great neither AND we were accused of not picking up after our puppy… (which we always do).
Once we arrived in Schmallenberg and checked in we decided to take a walk, starting from our hotel. The views were lovely. There was a storm heading our way, but we still had some sunshine, which gave us really nice pictures.

The second day we spent in Winterberg. We made a walk starting from the city center, at a spaghetti ice cream (it’s a thing there) and drove towards the Bobsled and walk around a bit. In the evening we drove towards Kahler Asten. Because we thought it was a shame to only be there for a short time (we had dinner reservations and a tired puppy with us), we decided to come back the day after. But f.y.i.: if you arrive after 18h, you don’t have to pay for a parking ticket. But… you can park a few hours for only € 1.50 or something, so it isn’t that expensive neither.
So the next morning we went back, followed a walking trail and headed back home.
