… but luckily for us, the moment we were out of the car, the rain stopped for a brief moment so we could enjoy Córdoba with a grey sky (but no rain).
You can’t have it all!

Córdoba was less spectacular than I imagined. But I have to be honest, the rainy weather did leave us with a bad mood, so that might had have something to with it as well.
We started walking around for a bit, through the Jewish quarter, making a quick visit to the Synagogue. It might be the first one I’ve ever stepped foot in one. It was a small one – or at least what we could see. But we liked it, the decorations on the wall (at least those who were left). The visit is also free of charge (or at least it was at that moment).

After visiting the Synagogue, we left to visit the one and only Mezquita. The crown jewel of Córdoba. And what a jewel it was. The Mezquita was huge. Once you got over the immensity of the Mezquita and the huge amount of pillars… you get the time to see all the other decorations of the Mezquita and the different rooms. It is a must.
We walked around a bit in the city… but with the grey weather, we weren’t really keen on exploring a lot. So we went to the Calleja de las Flores, which didn’t had a lot of flowers if you ask me – maybe it is prettier in summer? – and the Plaza Mayor, there we entered the Mercado and bought ourselves a bocadillo before returning back to our car. Maybe we need to go back during a hot summer day to get the vibe of the city?

After visiting Córdoba we traveled to our next hotel in Sanlúcar de Barrameda. One day we went roadtripping in the neighborhood (see the next post) and the other day we spent walking along the beach. We had a good view of the Doñana National Park, where the boyfriend did not want to spend any time. We had a nice lunch at El Espejo Gastrobar. were we also wanted to taste the famous Manzanilla. That’s some sort of sherry wine, that’s only made in Sanlúcar. It has something to do with the salty wind from the sea/ Guadalquivir … look it up ;-). The food wasn’t the best we had during this trip, but it was ok. We sat outside, the weather was great and we didn’t had anything else to do.
