I had you fooled there, didn’t I? Saying that our last holiday together was the Northern part of Spain. Surprise! We did do one more trip! But it wasn’t like all the others we did. Now we did not know where we were going! We booked our trip with srprs.me, a Dutch online travel agency who organizes surprise trips. Knowing me, I’m a freak in organizing my trips and holidays, so now I was obliged to let that go. And actually we enjoyed it. We didn’t do anything. But we relaxed and enjoyed our last time together as a couple, without a baby. You can book a citytrip or a roadtrip, we – of course – booked the second one. Four days, two destinations.

It all starts a week before your travel date. Then you receive some information about the weather of your destination and a little note, that makes it all the more exciting. On the day itself, you can scratch a unique code that you can give in online to see your first stop (which isn’t where you’re going to sleep). Oh and we had our dog with us, Nova. Which was a little extra cost, as was taking breakfast with the overnight stays.

So we scratched the code and revealed our first destination: Deventer, in The Netherlands. Never heard of that before! When we arrived there, we searched for a parking space, took Nova out of the car and started walking towards the center of this cosy little city. We had something to drink, ate some pie and “scratched” our second (and final destination for the following days) virtually ‘out’. Apparently we were about to sleep a few nights in Lattrop-Breklenkamp… Say what? I couldn’t even pronounce that correctly… let alone remember it for the rest of the trip :-). This little town was still in The Netherlands, but right at the border with Germany. It lied in a rural area. Perfect for walking, biking, … but with the pregnant belly… and a dog that wasn’t keen on staying in a basket on a bike… we decided to go towards a petting zoo in Germany where dogs were allowed: Tierpark Nordhorn.

Our third destination (stop-over towards our second sleeping place) was Siegbund, in Germany. Again… what? We never actually reached the place, because they were working on all the main roads in Germany (or so it seemed) and we were driving from traffic jam to traffic jam… so we went straight towards our final destination: Girod, still in Germany. We never did anything that final day, besides eating in the restaurant of the hotel – because we were tired of the trip.

How fun as it was… I’m not sure if I would do it again. Mainly because I have the feeling we didn’t do anything at all. Not that that’s a bad thing… it’s just not… how I’m used to celebrate my holiday ;-). Although we did like it. The hotels were splendid, the environment as well… so maybe … we will do it again. Because it actually was relaxing. And to be honest… isn’t that what a real holiday is all about?
