Our seventh day we ended in Asturias, in Oviedo. A cosy city that was the beset stop-over to go to Covadonga. But before we went further on our trip, on the eight day of our journey we went to take a hike in the Parque Natural Somiedo. Again… we wanted to do an easy hike, but howdy ho… the climbs I had to take with a belly with a baby in it… it wasn’t all puppies and sunshine. But with a little help from the boyfriend and enough breaks along the way, we hiked de Valle del Lago. We enjoyed some spectacular views before reaching the artificial lake, surrounded by snowy mountains. If I wasn’t pregnant, we would’ve done another hike around Saliencia. But the start of the hike was snowed over, and the time wasn’t in our favor neither. So we just drove towards the starting point, looked around for a bit, and went back to Oviedo.

Before reaching Covadonga on the ninth day, we passed by Cabo de Peña and enjoyed some views over the ocean. It was a nice change from the green nature we saw before and the crowed cities we visited as well.  Very few people were eager to go to the ocean side during May, so we’ve learned. We even stopped at the Mirador de la Providencia, to have a nice and peaceful lunch. Just like old times. Just me, the boyfriend, the car and nature. After having a sundae at the Playa de Espasa and taking a few pictures of the famous bridge in Cangas de Onis, we reached Covadonga. We wanted to rush into the Parque Nacional Picos de Europa (because before the weekends you could enter for free with your car) but the fog was coming up and hiking wasn’t an option any more.

So on the next day, the tenth day, we walked towards the bus station (our hotel was right in front of it), and waited for the bus to take us towards the Parque Nacional Picos de Europa. The hike we took was the most popular hike in the park: the hike towards Lagos de Covadonga. You have two parts of this hike. Most people stop after they’ve reached both the Lago de La Ercina and had a nice view over the Lago de Enol via the Mirador entrelagos. But we took it a bit further and hiked the whole, extended trail. Not the best decision while being pregnant, as we found out during that hike. Very little path… a lot of rocks. But we’ve made it. All three of us. And the second part was the best and less crowed part of the day.

On the eleventh day we started our return towards País Vasco, but not before we visited the Cueva de Tito Bustillo (no pictures allowed) where we could see some ancient rock drawings of our ancestors. We also stopped by the Parque de la Naturalez de Cabárceno. On a Sunday. Not the best day to visit the place if you do not want to leave with a lot of grey hair… It’s an animal park in which you have to drive with your car towards the different animals. I thought it would be more spectacular… more like a safari… but it was just a big zoo.
