The heath wasn’t planning on leaving us alone any time soon… maybe because we were entering the desert of Nevada 😉.
On our way to Las Vegas, we drove through the Valley of Fire State Park.

We weren’t as impressed as I thought we would be 😊. Don’t get me wrong, it was a beautiful area. But there are tons of beautiful side trails, scenic drives and so on. And this just wasn’t the best one we did during our holiday. But that’s just us. Maybe we didn’t see the best part of the state park.

The Valley of Fire State Park is Nevada’s oldest state park and it is located just 50 miles northeast of Las Vegas. Its name comes from the red sandstone formations which formed from shifting sand dunes 150 million years ago. The most impressive stops for us was the Elephant Rock (which you can go to via a short walk from the parking lot – you are not allowed to stop to shoot a picture while passing it with your car). We did search for the Arch Rock, but didn’t find it – or just didn’t look long enough. But we did find the Atlatl Rock, with some Petroglyphs on it. Really beautiful! But such a pity that they were vandalized 😔. We also searched for the Petrified Logs but that didn’t stick with me neither. I mean… some lost trees that were stuck in the ground and hardly recognizable as trees… Nope, not for me.

It is a special environment to drive through though, and it might be the most scenic drive when you go from Zion to Las Vegas (or Las Vegas to Zion). So don’t hesitate and just drive through this fierce red landscape.
